NaNoWriMo Update Week 1

I'm very happy with my progress so far. 12101 words as of last night, and I'm a fifth of the way there. YAY!

I am visiting my parents for 4 days later in the month, so I need the extra words banked up for that, as well as for days where things (and MissIcy) just make it impossible to do more.

I'm finding that the really detailed chapter summary I did before I started is really helping. I don't have to think about what my characters are doing next, I can just get on with writing what happens.

I'm also finding yWriter (novel manager) and yEdit (simple text editor with a word countdonwn) from SpaceJock Software (both donation-ware) and FreeMind (free mind mapping software) have also helped me a great deal. Check them out if you're finding Word annoying (good for formatting but a bit distracting).

The other thing I'm doing is NO EDITING. Not once, not even spell checking. I am just leaving it all. It may make more work for me later, but for the moment it means I'm "writing forward" not writing back, and I'm feeling good about that.

So, I've procrastinated enough. I'd better get back to it.
