She was about 5’ 5” and with a womanly figure, nice face, nice hair, and she would have looked great in the right outfit. Unfortunately she had made 3 mistakes with the 3 pieces of clothing she was wearing.
The first was a poorly fitting black A-line skirt with large horizontal cream stripes across the bottom of it, at just the wrong length. She looked about five sizes wider than she really was. But if she’d been wearing a plain black shirt and black tights, it would have been OK, not great, but OK.
The second was an almost matching jacket, wide lapels, single button, nipped in nicely at the waist and flattering to the figure, but with a cream band around the whole thing, it just… If she was wearing a straight pair of black pants, and a black shirt, she would have looked very pulled together. But with the skirt, it just looked too busy.
The third was the shirt. The shirt was … odd. It was cream, had a v-neck with a wide collar, and a bib. Yes a bib. It sort of hung down underneath the collar, with a row of tiny black buttons down it. I think it was trying to evoke a man’s formal shirt. The idea was interesting, but the execution once again wasn’t working. The bib was just a bit too long, hanging past her waistband, so it immediately looked silly, and with the rest of the outfit it just was too, too much. If she’d chosen plain black pants and jacket, it might have worked, but as it was, NOOOOO.
Any one of the elements she was wearing could have worked on their own, on a plain black canvas, but all together, it was just TOO BUSY. Keep this in mind when you’re getting ready in the morning too.
