I’ve been tagged by Rebecca over at the Space Between my Peers for a new meme to tell you how I got engaged. Love it! Anyway, here goes…
Paul and I met at our residential college at Uni during our orientation week. We danced together at our harbour cruise (a Goth one ^_^) and then went out with some others to a movie at the end of the week, and then we started going out. Yep, we met the first week of Uni. After six months or so, we started to get serious. After 2 1/2 years of being together we moved out of college and into a flat together.
At about 3 1/2 years or so it was pretty obvious we were together for the duration, so we started to bring up the “M” word. We decided that we’d wait until we’d mostly finished Uni (we were smart that way).
So after 4 1/2 years together (round about, with another few months of Uni to go for me and Paul finished) I rolled over in bed one morning and asked Paul why he hadn’t asked me to marry him yet (thinking about this now, I should have just asked him ^_^).
He looked a bit stunned (as you’d be) and then rolled over to face me and asked me very seriously “will you marry me”. I looked at him a bit teary and asked “are you sure you’re not just saying that”, he said “no of course not”, and I said “YES”! We didn’t tell anyone for a week or so as we went to find a ring but once we had it, we told everyone.
Six months later we were married and I’ve never been happier and the day was almost perfect (make sure if you get a DJ they know you don’t like the chicken dance song). I’ll tell that story another time.
So the timeline is:
- 23 February 1994 – We meet
- 28 February 1994 – We start going out
- October (ish) 1998 – I prod and Paul proposes (neither of us can remember the exact date, we're so lame!)
- 10 April 1999 – We get married! Ahhhh
- February 2008 – Our first child will be born
