Well, they're not all that frequently asked, but I thought I'd anticipate you (updated 6th July 2009).Who is Icy?
That’s me! I’m the author of this blog. I’m:
- 33
- Live in Sydney, Australia
- An IT System Administrator (which I love)
- Reading, playing computer games, cooking and sewing
- Have 1 husband and 1 daughter
- And I love fashion and personal style
Surely Icy isn’t your real name?
No, it’s not, but my real name is fairly unique in Australia, so I’m sticking with Icy.
Why choose the name Icy?
It’s a pun off the acronym of Individual Chic, IC = Icy, geddit?
What is Individual Chic?
Individual Chic is a blog about my personal style choices, personal style choices that other people make (both good and bad), current fashions and how to incorporate them, other fashion and clothing related stuff, and other stuff in general. You’ll get a generous dose of me on this blog by the way.
What is a blog?
A blog is a “web log”, a log of your thoughts, opinions, ideas on the web. Some people use a blog like a diary, some use it as a place to rant, and some use it to voice opinions. The ways people use blogs are almost as varied as the number of blogs there are.
Do you write any other blogs?
Yep, I write two other blogs. One is called Icy Breeds and is about much more personal stuff than what’s on Individual Chic (you’re still welcome to visit though).
How often do you update?
Individual Chic is updated at least twice a week, usually at 8:00 AM Australian time. I’ll let you know if I’m going to be out for a while.
What is an RSS subscription?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a different way of reading information from the web. You are probably reading this blog through your Internet browser window (like Internet Explorer or Firefox), but you could also just be reading the text of the latest post in an RSS Feed reader, like Google Reader or Yahoo (or even Internet Explorer 7). It means you don’t have to browse to every site to read something new, you can just go to one place and only see what has been updated. See this thought provoking video about how information can now be organised on the web.
If you'd like to subscribe you can read my feed through a reader or get it by email.
How do I navigate your blog?
Well, if you’re just reading the latest post, it’s pretty easy. If you want to find older posts:
- You can use the Search Blog bar at the top of the window
- You can check out the list of my favourite posts down the left hand side
- You can browse by month down the left hand side
- You can browse by category down the left hand side
- You can look at related articles at the bottom of most posts (and no, not down the left hand side)
Why do you have advertising?
In the hope of making a bit of cash off the time I spend writing this stuff (not that I mind, I LOVE writing my blog).
Have you made any money yet?
Yay! Google Ads only pay out when you reach US$100. It took 18 months, but I made it.
What did you spend the money on?
It went towards a flagrently expensive handbag.
I got here via an ad I saw on another site. How can you afford advertising?
I can't. Google offered me $75 of free credit as I was an existing AdSense user. It cost me $10 of real money to activate an AdWords account, and then I've only been using the free credit. When it runs out, I'll close the account again.
Will you link to me?
I might. I always go and check out the sites of people who leave me comments or who link to me. If I like your site I’ll link back to you.
How often do you respond to comments?
I try to respond to all comments I get, and I usually do it a few times a week. Depends on how busy I am at work or home (yes, I do write this blog at work as well, I’m so bad).
I want to start my own blog, how do I do it?
Well I signed up for Blogger for my blog. Use the Create Blog link in the top corner of this page. There are lots of other options though, some more flexible, some less. Sign up for one and try it out.
I have a question. How do I ask it?
Leave me a comment or tweet me and I’ll get back to you.

Robin, I don't email people, but let me know which comment you are refering to.
Thanks

Hi Icy,
I'm a researcher at Triple J's Hack TV. We're interested in doing a story about eco fashion. I was wondering if I could get your email and/or phone number so that we might be able to have a chat about your thoughts on this? If you could please get back to me ASAP that'd be great. I'm guessing you wouldn't want these published on your site, so perhaps if you could send it to clgavin@gmail.com ?
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Thank you!
Hi Icy,
I would love to get in touch with you about an upcoming report for Choice about Clothing Sizes in Australia, that I thought you might be interested in.
If you would like me to send you some further information, can you please send me the best email address to contact you on: jaya (at) markcomms.com.au
Thanks,
Jaya
