Closet Goth

Colour, what can I say about it? I’m just not really in to it. Ever since I was able to make my own clothing choices I’ve been choosing black. Almost every photo I can find of me from about 14 onwards I’m wearing black. Despite all this, I never had the guts to go fully Goth. I just wasn’t social or confident enough.

Even today I still wear mostly black (though today it’s not to do with not being social or confident enough). I’m happy in it, and I feel it is a strong statement colour (or lack there-of). It’s a rare day I don’t wear any black at all (like once a month) and I’m usually feeling particularly girly those days. Even my PJs are black.

Today I’m wearing black, though not top to tail. I’ve got ivory shoes and an ivory trench to add a touch of class. Tomorrow though, I’m back to all black ^_^.

I think I'm a closet goth, too! I used to go to goth night before the club we went to closed. I'd wear mostly black, but then there's be some color. I never did black fingernails or lips - just thick eyeliner. No skulls, either. We heard from a friend that some other club is having a goth night this week and my husband and I are planning to go check it out. We love the music, and most of all, the wonderful friends we've met.

I do love the way it feels to wear black, but I have to add some other color somewhere or it makes me look too tired.

I've done the black nails too at times, though not for a while (perhaps I'll have to lash out and paint them up again ^_^)

My skin colour means I can wear all black but still look fine. I have to say though, I often wear another dark colour with the black which can help.

Same here.. when I wear black, I look really tired and washed (as per Husband)

I've since switched to burgundy, and brown.... as my neutrals. Or grey. :)

Oooh, love burgundy as a colour. I often end up wearing it (with black of course ^_^)

Burgundy and black is an awesome combination :)

Totaly! I also go black and grey, black and brown, and occasionally black and teal. I know black and purple are traditional Goth colours, but I'm just not a purple person.

That's okay, Icy, I like you anyway. ;)

Thanks Rebecca, I think ^_^

I'm definitely a "closet goth" - I've never gone full-on goth because I wasn't socially confident before, but I've always (as the tagline of my blog implies) dressed on the dark side. Usually in black and purple ;)

Lady Julianne, sounds much like me. More recently I've gone the full Goth thing, but yes, only since I've become more confident.

Im a 40yo male and used to frequent a goth club in the early-mid eighties. I was never brave enough to do the full on makeup, only occasional eyeliner and half a can of hairspray. My wife is so not-into the goth culture and I tend to listen to the Cure on my iPod and check out the great goth fashion that is available on the net in private. I bought most of my clothes from 2nd hand shops and then made mods to them to make them fit when I first started going out to nightclubs. How things have evolved. I am travelling with work soon and am planning a night out at a modern goth club. I am intending to go all out with the makeup and my wife will be wondering why I have packed so much black for the trip.

Hey 40yo male, thanks for dropping by! Hope you have an outstanding time on your night out! I have to say I wasn't really much of a clubber to start with, but I still love wearing black.
