Individual Chic: Store Wars

Store Wars

There are two big department stores in Australia, Myers and David Jones, and every Spring they face each other off for the Australian fashionista’s spending dollar. The papers call this the Store Wars and talk it up big time. The department stores say it’s all silly, and there is no war going on, but of course they delight in the free publicity. Each store has their own stable of well know Australian designer and a “face” to represent them.

David Jones has Megan Gale along with the designers Alex Perry, Willow, Jodhi Mears, Sass & Bide, Akira and Zimmerman, as well as others.

Myer’s face is Jennifer Hawkins, former Miss World and she of the embarrassing (but nicely handled) wardrobe malfunction, and their designers include Yeojin Bae, Camilla and Marc, Josh Goot, and Jayson Brunsdon.

I have to say from what I’ve seen of the two offerings so far this year, I’ve been more impressed with Myers clothes. DJ’s French Riviera theme left me a bit bleh.

On the other hand, who am I to talk? It’s not like I’m going to actually buy any of this stuff. I always think $600 for a dress is just a bit much.

Yea.. I get into that mindset too, then I pop myself back into reality and realize I haven't EVER spent over $100 on a dress....
