And by that I mean me. I seem to be sinking southwards and outwards at a surprising rate, and this is despite loosing 5 or so kilograms in the last 6 or 7 weeks. My clothes still fit but they just fit in a different way. I don’t know if it’s because I lost that 5kg off the top of my body, so the hips look bigger, or because I’m pregnant my hips are getting “earthy”. Either way, I’m finding clothing doesn’t look quite the same on me. I may need to re-evaluate what my current wardrobe looks like.
Now I’d like to make it clear, I’ve always had a stomach, and I’ve even been asked if I was pregnant, well before I actually was. I’m just finding my stomach is getting bigger at the moment (even though I shouldn’t be showing yet). Damn that hormone Relaxin; it makes everything larger. In fact, that may be the culprit affecting my hips too.
Has anyone else experience a body shape change (as opposed to a body size) and what did you do about it?

Icy as you know pregnancy messed with my body as well. I now carry weight on my upper arms and upper back which won't budge but my hips and thighs have shrunk. Stomach will never be taut again even though I'm in a healthy weight and height range now.
The only thing I do to try to combat it and not make it worse is exercise and cut down on my food portions. Also I wear black at every opportunity and nothing showy which attracts the eye to those particular areas!
I thought that two kids had widened my hips a lot. Turns out that my hips aren't all that bad...my thighs are getting thicker and my butt is going south. Sad, but jeans do wonders at hiding it. I'm still trying to figure out how to get rid of it though. Good luck.
Yep, it changed my shape - and particularly early on in pregnancies two and three, when I think my body just thought "OK, here we go again!".
I had seven years between pregnancies one and three too, and luckily fashion had changed. With number three in neat, narrow lines were around, and it was a lot more flattering than the great balloony numbers from 1995.
And I agree with madame2bar black hides many things. It's a good thing I'm a Melbourne gal!
Well with a hormone called "relaxin" what should one expect? I've done a bit of relaxin' on the couch these last 6 months and put on 10kg myself! But seriously, congrats on the pregnancy and enjoy the changes of your body but remember that your man will love you and your body as it changes too. Pregnancy is something wonderful that us men never get to experience, that's why we have dogs I suppose.
And lastly, things may be heading south, but us men, our hair travels north! We call it growing more face.
Congrats on being pregnant!!
My sis in law went through the same thing, and her feet started getting bigger, and her entire hips/stomach area expanded pretty big....
Her boobs also got much MUCH larger, and she hasn't really lost that weight from her chest even though she worked out like crazy to lose all the weight after it.
After three births, I would just like to encourage you that the changes are to be expected. And temporary.
Enjoy playing with a different silhouette. But don't get rid of any favorite pre-baby clothes.
M2B, I already wear black all the time so I should be right with that. I never managed the taunt stomach in the first place though ^_^
Amisare, jeans can do wonders can't they, I also go for the girdle + pants thing.
Delamare, I may live in trashy Sydney, but I'm a Melbourne girl at heart ^_^
Dean, I'll be interested to see how my body does change, but I'm sure I'll be cool with it (and Paul will be too).
FabBroke, I'm seriously hoping my feet don't get bigger though I've heard this can happen. I have too many nice shoes! Also hoping the boobs don't get bigger, I've got my share already ^_^
Rebecca, I'm keeping what I've got. They're all so "me" and I love them. If they don't fit afterwards, I can always use them as patterns for new clothes.
I'm now 7 months along and I've found the changes in my body to be totally disorienting. It's like I am suddenly living in someone else's body, and I have no idea how to dress it or move it or just generally deal with it.
My strategies throughout have involved lots of black and other solid colors with bold jewelry and shoes. Look up or down, just not at my middle. That seems to work pretty well.
Alias Mother, heh, I should be right then, most or my clothes already revolve around black and I lurve red shoes ^_^
