Wow, that is thought provoking. I remember my first web site back in '98. I worked on it for a a few years, but didn't get back into that side of things much until recently. Some things have changed a lot... but other things really haven't changed at all. It does make me wonder where do we all go from here.
Hey Meg, my first site was around '95 I think. I designed on for my (small) faculty as Uni. I remember being so proud at working out how to do an image map for the navigation buttons, but I seem to remember the rest of the site as being very primitive.
Now it's all about content only, afterall, if you're reading this through RSS, you don't see any of the pretty formatting. Information is the key.
My computer teacher said the same thing in different words! We're at a turning point...like Meg said, wonder where it'll go from here. There are so many negatives, like the overaccumulation of digital memory & info, perversely slowing down society....yet, the idea of blogs is brilliant & positive..the purpose of connecting..
Very interesting!!
The thing I worry about is the preservation of the digital information. I have gigs of photos backed up onto CD, but burned CDs only last a few years, with DVDs a few years more. I still have hard-drive copies because I know about this, but how many other people don't?
I've been dealing with information explosion at work as well, just running out of space to store stuff and running out of time to back it up. We're about to put in a solution, but it's a new problem that has only appeared in the last few years. 5 years ago, I'm sure most people couldn't have seen this coming (and the ones who did are now making a LOT of money).
