Individual Chic: It's cold!

It's cold!

I’m working from a small town in the Snowy Mountains of NSW and it’s cold here, -3 to 3 degrees. I’m wearing full length bike pants under my pants, woollen socks, two t-shirts and a jumper, and I’m still in the office. For when I go out I have a cashmere scarf my Dad bought back from Mongolia, a woollen beret, lined leather gloves, and a long woollen coat. I’m even breaking that cardinal rule about wearing wedges with pants, but my wedge boots are fur lined, so I don’t care!

OK, I know I’m a wuss. For lots of people (including those who live in this town) it’s not really that bad, but I’m not used to it.

What do you wear to keep warm?

UPDATE - OMG I could be stuck here! Road to Canberra (where my flight leaves from at 18:10) is closed due to snow. It's now 15:15 and I'd have to leave by 16:00 to make it. The direct flight (at 19:00) is booked out but I'm waitlisted (not much chance, it's only a small flight). I'm desperately hoping the road does open and I can at least get to Canberra, even if I need to stay in a hotel overnight. I've gotta get back to Sydney by 8:00 tomorrow.

UPDATE 27/06 - OK, so I was fine. I ended up calling a police station nearby and they told me the road had just been opened. I left at 15:45 and made it to Canberra safely and in time for my flight home. I totally understand why they closed the road though, there was snow on both sides in two seperate places, and lots of wheel marks off the sides as people left the road (though I don't know if they were just pulling over). So many people don't know how to drive for the conditions though, breaking the speedlimit with rain and snow seems stupid really, as is driving without your lights on. However to the person who felt they had to drive along at 60km/h (the limit is 100), that's also stupid. There is such a thing as too slow.

Wear layers and layers of wool (currently 5 degrees in Canberra and raining heavily)

Today I'm wearing a ribbed polo neck jumper (not quite all wool), a grey Esprit knit wool hoodie over the top and an extra large mohair jumper (which I knitted in 1989) over that.

Tracksuit pants, knitted wristlettes, wooly sock, slippers and a wool rug over my knees complete the look...

(Not planning on leaving the office today for anyone or anything!)

Here's another example of cold beating home office wear: http://theshoppingsherpa.blogspot.com/2007/06/daily-outfit-4-june-2007.html

Sadly, I'm starting to consider Damart a good place to explore...

Currently 2.4 degrees here. Bloody hell! There is no way I'm going outside (untill 4:00 when I'm leaving to drive back to Canberra).

Oh Icy - you're living up to your name!

I don't feel the cold as much. I spent my childhood in Canberra, and remember getting dressed into my school uniform while still in bed though.

Here in Melbourne on a very cold day, I make sure I wear layers to work, as it's cold waiting for a train, but quite heated in the office. I bought a great full length, 1970s-ish tweedy overcoat in the Myer sale last week, and it's working a treat. I'm also addicted to boots and scarves, so that helps. But I never seem to wear gloves ... I never get cold enough.

My pet peeve, as you would know from my blog, is people shivering on the street, while they are wearing kidney-freezing crop tops and thongs (flip-flops).

Come summer, however, I feel the heat something horrid. I can never get cool, and I hate short sleeves.

(Hope you get to Canberra tonight too!)

you poor thing! It's 93 (F) here and humid as hell. I hope you make it home on time! and um, no wedges with pants?!?!? I didn't know. I wear a pair with one pair of pants I own, I think they go very well. They are long...

Delamare, I to totally agree with you about inapropriate clothing. It's so silly.

CG_CL, well the no wedges with pants is really my personal thing, especiall with bootlegs, which these pants were. If I was wearing skinny legged pants (I don't have work ones), they would have looked fine. Perhaps I should invest in some...

I'm glad you posted an update. I was concerned about you. Good it all turned out okay. (It usually does, except when it doesn't. he hee)

Thanks for the concern Rebecca. It would have been all fine anyway. I just would have had to stay an extra night. I'm glad I made it back to Sydney and my appointment though.
