Today I’m wearing …

Icy @ Individual ChicBlack velveteen jacket from Jigsaw, bought at ¾ off from Birkenhead Point. Brown tunic converted from a dress I bought at Katies. Gaucho pants bought from Chic Star in my search for the perfect pair of pants (would you believe this is the first piece of clothing I’ve ever bought on-line). Ballet flats from Diana Ferrari.

I really like that you combined black and brown. So many people think that putting those two colors together is somehow verboten. You still got the same thinning look as if you had gone monochrome, but it adds so much more interest than if you had done black head to toe.

And by the way, thanks so much for the blogroll add :)

Hey Meg, that's odd, I was having the exact conversation with a friend about the whole black/brown thing the day I was wearing that outfit (she is a "no"). I don't get it, why is it a no-no?

I think black and brown together is great! My new boots are brown, and I have a few brown pieces of clothing, but mostly I wear them with my Melbourne black, set off with one of my brown toned scarves. The thing is that 'rules' can sometimes be broken very successfully. (Like your blog BTW.)

Hey Delamare, thanks for stopping by ^_^

I think the no black and brown thing came about first in menswear (where simple rules are usually more appreciated). You're not "supposed" to wear brown shoes with black pants or a brown belt with black pants or brown socks with black shoes... that sort of thing. It's not that the colors look bad together so much as that when you're wearing the traditional corporate uniform (so to speak) things are supposed to match and not stand out so much.

Meg, Aha, that makes perfect sense. If I was I guy I would absolutely avoid brown socks/black shoes (unless I was completely trendy, and wanted to stick it to the corporate "man" ^_^)
