One of the trends back in is the emphasis on the waist. This is either through high waisted pants or fitted dresses. One of the problems with a fitted dress, especially an A-line style, is that standard length jackets just don’t “work”. One option is to go with a long jacket the same length as the dress, but the other option available this season, tying in with the new focus of the waist, is the cropped jacket.Megan Gale wearing Akira Red, from the David Jones Winter 2007 catalogue (www.davidjones.com.au)
The jacket sits on or above the waist and will usually have 3/4 length sleaves, also called a swing jacket, and just right for autumn. When I bought my cream one from Veronika Maine (www.veronikamaine.com.au) at the post Christmas sales, it was one of 3 that I could find in any store, but suddenly they are everywhere. Even Target (www.target.com.au) has a selection.
The other alternative is a cropped cardigan, which gives the same affect but usually for less money.
