I don’t usually spend a lot on what I wear; I don’t work in a high powered enough job to really justify an Armani suit (though I’d adore one). The most expensive thing I ever bought was an AU$4000 jacket from Turkey in red leather, hmm red leather. Other than that I have 1 AU$300 jacket from Cue. Most of the rest of it is under $80, apart from the occasional suit. You don’t have to spend a lot on clothes; you just need to pick your pieces carefully.
One reason people buy designer clothes is you know you get something exclusive and unusual, which is all very well, but normal people can’t afford it. The only way I can get really cool stuff is to make it myself. If you’re a fashionista on a budget, grab your Grandma’s sewing machine and go for it (or pay someone to do it for you, still an option but not as cheap).
